An Account of Eton Discipline, 1766

Level

Item

Administrative / Biographical history

According to Maxwell Lyte, Chapter 10, this document was drawn up in 1766 and annotated in the course of the next five years by Thomas James, a Kingsman, who subsequently acquired a great reputation as Head Master of Rugby. As Thomas James was not admitted to King's till 28 February 1767, the MS. must have been written by him while still at Eton. It appears to have been written for the guidance of a preparatory school.
