Lancelot (Lance) Hannen (1867-1942) was the youngest son of Benjamin Hannen (1830-1906) and Fanny Woodhouse (1942-1911). He was educated at Radley College and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he read law. He was a member of the Trinity Hall and Cambridge University rowing crew, 1888-89. He joined Christie, Manson & Woods in 1889 and became picture auctioneer and retired as senior partner of the firm . He presided over the Red Cross sales of art at Christie's during World War I and II which raised considerable sums for the war effort. His leisure interests included fishing, boating, amateur theatricals and travelling. He Married Delia Ellie Mary Dinnis (1872-1975) and they had two children:
