Baldwins, Kent: Indenture of exchange of land

Indenture between King Henry VIII and Roger Lupton, Provost and the College of Eton, by which the latter grant to the King the Hospital of St James in the Fields together with 185½ acres, of which there lie between Charing Cross and Aye Hill 64 acres upon the south side of the King's highway leading from Charing Cross to Aye Hill, and in the north field upon the north side of the said highway 96 acres, and 18 acres in two closes at Knightbridge, and 5 acres in a meadow called Temes mede, and ½ acre in a meadow called Chelsey mede, and 2 acres in a meadow in Fulham. And in return the King grants the Provost and College the manor of Baudewyns near Dartforde [Baldwins, Dartford], the advowson of the church of Newington and a marsh or pasture ground called Flache in Luddenham marsh, co. Kent; also the manor of Chatesham [Chattisham], with the advowson of the church there, co. Suffolk. The lands of the College called Chalcots and Wyldes [Wilds] in Hampstead, late of the Hospital of St James, and all other the lands of the College in the city and suburbs of London and the town of Westminster, are excepted from this exchange. The exchange to take effect from Michaelmas next.
