Description
Content (description)
On left a nude nymph rides on the back of a sea-man, who carries a shell horn and leads a horse to right, a dolphin beneath its hooves. Then a nymph with a billow of drapery rides on the back of a sea-man, who carries a horn and leads a ram to right. Next a similar group moves left, leading a tiger; the sea-man carrise a rudder. Lastly a nymph with her back turned to the viewer rides to left on the back of a sea-man, who holds a trident and leads a bull. Across the top of the sarcophagus is the inscription
ALLEDIAE MARCIAE FILI DULCISS IN FIDIED XIIII ALLEDIUS IROFIMIANUS E BAELIAMARINA PARENTES BENEMERENTIS FFEOR.
