Description

Content (description)

On left Pan and a putto sit on wine skins and hold between them a hoop, through which leaps a goat. In the background go a putto and two maenads, one with a basket of grapes on her head, the other clashing crotala. On right comes an ass carrying Silenus. Two satyrs support him, one on each side. A satyr in the background holds up a mask, another in the foreground rests his foot on an open cista and supports himself by leaning his arm on a panther. On right a satyr pours wine from a skin into a cup of another sitting on the ground, who drinks it as it is being filled. In centre background is a large rectangular building festooned with garlands. On right two satyrs tread grapes in a vat. Two figures, partly hidden by a hill, embrace. On far right is a Pan herm by a rock mound.
