This is one of four similar angels, designed to be displayed on the High Altar in College Chapel. The design is based on the two angels seen to either side of the Arca di San Domenico (Ark of Saint Dominic), a monument designed to hold the remains of Saint Dominic, located at the Basilica of San Domenico in Bologna, Italy. The angel, dated 1470-73, at the left side of the Arca di San Domenico, is by Niccolò dell' Arca, while on the right side of the monument is a similar work by Michelangelo of 1495.
