Comments
Though William included a Welsh view among his very first exhibits at the RWS, it was only after a long absence he returned to the country, this time to a new area centring on Capel Curig which had been popularised by David Cox, and exhibited Welsh subjects between 1846 and 1849. He recorded starting this particular subject on April 30th 1857. In spite of his Welsh ancestry William never mentions any contact with Welsh relations, though in an exhibition note inthe Red Dragon, January to June 1887, he was mentioned as 'the late Mr Evans, the drawing master at Eton College, who is know to may residents of Cardiff'.
