Comments
One of several watercolours by de Wint owned by William Evans. Another is now in the Witt Collection, 3829. William is said to have taken lessons from de Wint, and these probably took place in the 1820's when he was developing his watercolour technique, and when de Wint's teaching reputation was very high. They seem to relate most closely to watercolours in the William Burrows Album. The two artists never became close friends, and William did not long remain content to use pure watercolour. But he noted de Wint's opinons on lighting, and sent his prize pupil Thomas Gambier Parry to study under the older man.
