Comments
A Fellows’ library has existed in various locations at the College since the earliest times. In 1725, Thomas Rowland was commissioned to demolish the Southern Cloister and build the library seen here, which houses rare books and manuscripts dating from the 9th to 21st centuries. Today, the College Library, one of the jewels of Eton, is remarkably unchanged.
The tail-coat worn by the elderly gentleman seen reading by the window, indicates that he is a senior Eton master, probably Vice-Provost Francis Warre-Cornish (1839–1916).
