Late 17th century speckled mid-brown calf over pasteboard, sewn on four supports. On both covers, an outer border of blind double fillets; narrow squares, the board edges tooled with a gilt ornamental roll. Spine flat with four raised bands, tooled aside with blind double fillets; spine label (gilt titling over red morocco onlay: "Howell's letters"); endbands of alternating brown and white thread; badly worn with loss of leather at head. Textblock trimmed and sprinkled red. Endpapers comprising leaves of plain laid paper (pastedown and two flyleaves); upper flyleaves missing.
Wanting the additional engraved title-page (per ESTC: "Added title-page engraved and signed: Epistolæ Ho Elianæ ... F.H. Van. Hove. fec:").
