Early 16th century English blind-stamped calf. Bound in London; blind tooled triple fillet border; frame of blind tooled triple fillet and wivern and bird roll (Oldham AN.h(1) 564; central panel of cross-hatched blind tooled fillet, with pineapple ornament (Oldham A. (2) 960 in each compartment; wooden boards; remains of tacks for chain and for clasps, left to right fastenings; nail marks in back cover ?where label attached; 20th century rebacking with blind tooled single fillet; four raised bands; red label with gilt titling on spine. Two copies of a reissue by Pope Alexander VI of the Bull of Innocent VIII "Licet ea", printed by Wynkyn de Worde in 1498-99, previously part of the binder's waste, were removed when the binding was restored and are now shelved at DDh.4.12 and DDf.5.18(02).
Manuscript fragment (Justinian, Institutio, II.X?) removed from the spine when the binging was repaired in 1970 in now loosely inserted in DDf.5.18 (1-2).
