19th century armorial bookplate of John Hannah on upper pastedown. The manuscript note attributing the bookplate to the John Hannah (1792-1867) 'from whom descended the first Warden of Glenalmond' may be incorrect: although his son, also named John Hannah (1818-1888) was Warden of Trinity College Glenalmond from 1854 to 1870, he was not its first (that was Christopher Wordsworth, the poet's nephew).

20th century armorial bookplate, dated 1952, of James Edmund Kennedy and Ellen Jane Sausmarez Esdaile on second upper endpaper recto; manuscript note below bookplate reads "Presented . . . to the Library of Eton College MCMLIV".

Manuscript notes on i) upper pastedown, first upper endpaper recto, and second upper endpaper recto in an unidentified hand, containing biographical information on former owners and notes on pagination; and ii) first upper endpaper recto and verso, ascribed to John Hannah (1818-1888), chiefly about Aubrey and Wood, and attributing the loss of the title-page to "some Grangerite".
18th century brown panelled calf; panel design comprising of intersecting double blind fillets; outer frame and inner compartment speckled; inner frame bordered with a semi-circular tool in blind with foliate ornaments at corners; outer border of double fillets; board edges tooled with a roll of alternating diagonal fillets. Spine with five raised bands, badly worn but with traces of sparse blind tooling. Textblock speckled red; endpapers undecorated.
