Mid-to-late 16th century elaborately gold-tooled calf over pasteboard, probably bound in Leipzig. On both covers, a border of a repeating ornamental tool with a central panel of arabesque design comprised of foliate and strapwork-esque elements, all within an outer frame of concentric blind and gilt fillets. Spine with five raised bands; compartments outlined with transverse gilt single fillets and filled with a repeating circular foliate tool; shelfmark label (19th or early 20th century) in lowermost compartment. Turn-ins gilt with same ornamental tool as on covers. Textblock trimmed, rounded, gilt, and gauffered to a repeating quatrefoil design with semé outline and small tools (sexfoil, fleur-de-lys, sexfoil) at extremities. Remains of holes for ties. In box.
