Commonly referred to as the Magdeburg centuries; the details of the project were worked out by Matthias Flacius Illyricus, Johann Wigand and Matthaus Judex, Flacius directing the work; centuries seven to thirteen were elaborated especially by Wigand, and the three following centuries (14-16) were worked out by one Stangeland but were not completed; Basilius Faber, Andreas Corvinus, and Thomas Holzhuter have also been named in association with the work; the sixteenth century, compiled by Wigand, is in manuscript form in Wolfenbüttel; several attempts were made in the 18th century to bring the works down to date, but they were without results. -- cf.
