The sanction of Pope Leo X. printed in vol. 1. was not obtained till Mar. 22. 1520; and from the fact that Erasmus' third edition of the Greek Testament in 1522 bears no distinct trace of the influence of this edition, whereas the fourth does, it has been supposed that this Polyglot was not actually circulated till about 1522. It contains the first printed Greek Testament. About 600 copies were printed.
