Binding bears initials "I.B.". It is suggested on a note inserted in the 1st volume that this could be the Elizabethan surgeon John Banister (1532/3-1599?).

Contemporary dark brown leather; blind tooled triple fillet double border, with gold tooled fleurons at each corner, oval centrepiece and initials "I.B."; remains of iron nails for clasps; blind tooled double fillet decoration on spine, with hatching at head and tail, and gold tooled leaf-shaped fleurons; ms. binders waste visible in joints; contents of each volume written on fore-edge.

Note on top left corner of front pastedown of 1st vol.: "Empti. Londinij 1566. 2 Januarii. iiij libris Anglicis et iiij solidis. Eadem die incepi hunc legere. Jam tertio Deus optimus maximus concedat incomparabili sua gratia, ut integrum absolvam, te retineam in sui gloriam et suorum beneficium. Amen.". Marginal notes in the same hand throughout 1st vol.
