Armorial bookplate of the Le Gendre family of Bourgogne, marquis of St Aubin from 1652. The arms shown on the bookplate do not include a coronet, but the coronets on the spine suggest that the book was either owned by Gilbert-Charles Le Gendre (the only Le Gendre marquis de St Aubin), or that the volume remained at the chateau de St Aubin after his bankruptcy and death in 1746.
Booklabel of Nicolas Mann, recording donation to Eton College in 1754.
Early 18th century brown leather; gold tooled double fillet border; gold tooled decoration on spine, including large star shaped fleurons and marquis' coronets; two red morocco spine labels; six raised bands.
Previous shelfmark: Dg.3.16.
Spine label gives date of M.D.L. [1650] and "No. 487".
