Pencil inscription on pastedown of v. 3: Lord Lincoln. May suggest that the Earl of Lincoln, Henry Pelham-Clinton (later 5th Duke of Newcastle) subscribed to the Sketches.
Contemporary half red straight-grain morocco; blue and yellow marbled paper covered boards (v. 1), brown and blue marbled paper covered boards (v. 2 & 3); red straight-grain morocco title labels on front boards, with gold tooled letters and foliage roll frame; gold tooled title and decoration on spine.
Eton holds first 3 volumes only.
Drawings trimmed and mounted on brown paper; imprints often trimmed off.
T.p. of v. 1 bears inscription: and sold by J. Ryman, High St., Oxford. Title labels of all three v. bears same information.
Some prints bear blind stamp 'Subscribers copy'.
