Catalogued from an incomplete copy wanting the title-page; title taken from edition dated 1612 having the same extent but different setting of type (copies at Brotherton Library and Lincoln College, Oxford); date suggested from bound-with items.
Dedication to Laevinius Torrentius dated "Antuerpiae M.D.XXCVI. Kal. Ianuarius.", signed "Christoph. Plantinus".
Booklabel of John Reynolds, recording donation to Eton College in 1751.
Some textual underlinings in ink and early annotations in Latin and English on flyleaves.
Rear free-endpaper with ms. ownership inscription: "George Hanmer ejus liber. Anno dom: 1707: dec: 29", the name repeated on the facing pastedown; also "Geo: Hanmer" and "George Hanmore" on front flyleaf, with schoolboy doodles.
Additional ms. ownership inscription on rear pastedown: "Gilburt Nill. A Piltonzon".
Additional ms. ownership inscription on second front flyleaf: "Tho: Beaumont m. D. aetatis 93: ao. 1656 Julij 17" [i.e. Thomas Beaumont] with a verse below referring to his age.
17th-century vellum laced case binding, possibly Dutch, laced at head and foot and three sewing supports; yapp edges; black morocco spine-label lettered in gilt "Virgil et Horat.".
Imperfect: wanting the title-page and cropped at the fore-edge with loss of text in the prelims.
Bound with copies of the works of Horace and of Juvenal and Persius, both having imprint: Lugd. Batauorum : Ex officina Plantiniana, apud Franciscum Raphelengium, 1590.
