Contemporary English brown calf; upper cover with blind-stamped panel with a Tudor rose between scrolls, supported by angels, bearing the legend "Hec rosa virtutis de celo missa sereno/Eternu[m] florens regia sceptra foret", in the upper corners the sun and moon, at the foot a pomegranate (see Oldham, Blind stamped panels (1958), RO 21); lower cover with blind-stamped panel with an escutcheon bearing 1 and 4 France, 2 and 3 England, ensigned with a crown, supporters a dragon and a greyhound, in the upper corners the sun and moon and escutcheons with the Arms of St George and the City of London (see Oldham, op. cit., HE 26); borders and spine decoration of blind fillets; three raised bands; traces of clasps; later red morocco spine-label; ms. fore-edge title "Epis Plinij".
