Ms. poem by Clemence Dane entitled "Abbey Burial" on front endpaper. Dane's poem focuses on the separation of Hardy's heart from the rest of his body (and ashes). Presumably unpublished.

Clemence Dane was the pseudonym of Winifred Ashton (1888-1965), an English novelist and playwright. She wrote a screenplay adaptation of Tess of the d'Urbervilles, probably in the 1940s, that was never produced.
