Ms. letter dated 14 Dec 1903 tipped in after front flyleaf: "My dear ?Luke, I found there among my father's papers. I suspect he wrote them, as he wrote for The Era in old days (!) He died this year aged 90. You care about Eton which is nought for me, so burn or keep as you wish. Charles kean was my godfather, hence my Charles. He was also old schoolfellow of my father's, who liked him much - & eventually buried him. Don't bother to reply - life is too short for such effort. Charles T Gatty".
