Previously owned by Robert Browning (1812-1889) and his family.
"Robt. Browning" stamped in ink on front pastedown. Later inscription below: "Robert Browning, 1887". "Robt. Browning" was presumably Browning's grandfather. Also inscribed with "Math. 16. 26" above.
Ownership inscriptions on front endpaper: "Elizabeth Perthebridge her book" with "Robt. Browning of the Bank of England May 15 1774 son of Thomas, the son of Robin the husband of the above Elizabeth Perthebridge" below. Finally, underneath that, Robert Browning (poet) has written "(who was here fore the great-great-grandmother of R.B.".
Early ownership inscription on final page: "Mary Burns". Repeated, faintly, on verso of final page with "Rob Browning" stamp below. It is unknown what relation, if any, Mary Burns had to the Browning family.
