Herder-vvici : Ex officina typographi Synodalis. Prostant Francofurti in bibliopolio Caspari Dietzelij., [between 1620 and 1630]

Physical description

[16], 211, [5], 370, [2], 215, 217-349 p. ; 22 cm. (4to)

Note

"Compiled and edited with an introduction by Jan Wtenbogaert ... The imprint, suggesting Harderwijk, is doubtful. It has been suggested that the work was published at Antwerp, perhaps printed there by Abraham Verhoeven" -- BM STC Low Countries 1601-1621. This probably applies to the other known edition, since the woodcuts in the present edition suggest that it was printed by Kaspar Dietzel, probably at Frankfurt (in the period before he was at Strasburg, 1630-1652).

Note

This is one of at least two editions with very similar title-pages and structure. The present edition has no page 216 in the final numbered sequence, and has "Mediatoris" on page 9 of the same sequence. The other edition is correctly paginated, and has a final list of errata including the correction of "Medicatoris" to "Mediatoris" on page 9. The woodcut ornaments and title-page device are also different. There may be multiple states of the two (or more) editions. In the present state the title-page is undated (some copies, perhaps of both editions, are dated 1620), and bears the additional imprint of Kaspar Dietzel at Frankfurt, who probably also printed this edition.
