A collection of typescript material, bound or loosely inserted within one volume, relating to the bust of P. B. Shelley by Mrs Leigh Hunt that is part of the Eton College Library collection.
[1]: Loosely inserted carbon copy of a letter from Dante Gabriel Rossetti to Robert Browning, 3 April 1871, asking whether Henry Wallis could view the Shelley bust by Mrs Leigh Hunt that Browning had in his possession, with further copies. The original is in the Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett-Browning Collection at ECL MS 682.
[2]: Typed account of the Shelley bust's provenance entitled "The lost bust of Shelley : a note" by Shane Leslie (6 leaves pasted into volume).
[3]: Typed account of the Shelley bust's provenance entitled "Mrs. Leigh Hunt's bust of Shelley" by Wilfrid Meynell (1852-1948) (3 leaves pasted into volume). Meynell describes how the bust was mistakenly identified at the Browning sale as William Shergold Browning. It has "Greatham, Pulborough, Sussex. Where the bust was enshrined from 1913 till June 23, 1929" at the end of the 3rd leaf.
Also included in the volume is a typed page of extracts from ?Provost & Fellows minutes about the bust and copies of the bust, an etching of the bust, copies of the etching, an etching of Shelley's birthplace and a newspaper cutting about Shelley.
Inscribed by A.S.W. Rosenbach: "Material relating to the bust of Shelley presented to Eton College by Mr. Marshall Field. A.S.W. Rosenbach March 10, 1939". Also, loosely inserted stationery from The Rosenbach Company.
