Pocket book contains autograph mss. of "Love's Philosophy" (here untitled), "Time Long Past" and "Goodnight" by P. B. Shelley.
There are also some brief diary entries in Shelley's hand, recounting travels in Italy.
Autograph mss. are in: The literary pocket-book ; or companion for the lover of nature and art. London : printed for C. and J. Ollier, 1819.
Given by Shelley to Sophia Stacey. Inscribed in ms. on front endpaper: "Sophia Stacey. Given by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Florence Decbr 29th 1820. Italy. Bysshe Shelley was drowned [...]".
Purchased on the centenary of Shelley's admission to Eton with the help of H. Moreton Frewen, Shane Leslie and others. Autograph letter from Moreton Frewen about the donation loosely inserted, along with an autograph letter from J. A. ?Farrer about these autograph poems, a ms. extract from the obituary notice of Sophia Stacey and two inscription cards describing the donation.
Red leather binding with flap ; housed in red cloth case with "P. B. Shelley poems. Sophia Stacey pocket book" in gilt on spine.
