It being thought proper to publish a translation of Father Simon's New Testament, with his critical notes upon the literal meaning of the text, I am obliged to desire some encouragement for carrying on the work.

Prefatory notice asking for subscribers. The specimen gives the author's preface, dated Paris June 15 1697, the preface to St. Matthew and one leaf of the text of St. Matthew (sigs A-G).
Webster proposes to publish his translation of Richard Simon's French translation of the New Testament, published in Paris in 1702. Webster's plea for subscribers was successful as Simon's translated Bible was published in 1730.
