[48], 537, [49] p. : ill. (woodcuts) ; 23 cm. (4to)
"Ritus varii benedictionis aquae", pp. 459-537, includes texts translated from and printed in Greek, Armenian, Syriac, and Ethiopic (Arabic characters).
Pages 491-504 contain the Armenian text with Latin translation in parallel columns, of the Canon of Blessing Water and Salt performed on Sundays, with caption title in Armenian "Կանոն Օրհնութեան աղի եւ ջրի Յաւուրս Կիրակէից" amd in Latin "Benedictio salis, et Aquae quae fit in diebus Dominicis". This text is reproduced from the Armenian book of Rituals [Mashtots' = Մաշտոց]. Additionally contains the text of the same rite in Greek, Syriac.
The colophon at the end of the Armenian text (p. 504) was composed by Sult’anshah T’okhatetsi (Marc Antoine Abgarean) who while in Rome contributed to the publication of the Gregorian Calendar in 1584 [Տօմար Գրիգորեան ]. The colophon is dated in the year of the Lord ՌՇՁԶ [i.e. 1586].
Note on type: Armenian 16p bolorgir fonts (Granjon), pp.492-504; Syriac, pp. 505-511; Ethiopic (Arabic), pp. 522-527.
"Cum priuilegio summi Pontifici" at foot of engraved device on title page; "Ex autoritate superiorum" at foot of imprint.
Woodcut printer's device on final colophon leaf with hedgehog and motto "Mordentes sauciabuntur"; initials; head-pieces.
Woodcut illustrations on p. [490]: portraits of St Peter and St Paul, and two biblical scenes in small squares. Voskanyan Ninel in his Armenian book in the 1512-1899 [Հայ գիրքը 1512-1800 թվականներին] suggests mistakenly that the portraits represent St Bartholomew and St Thaddeus, the two Apostles who preached Christianity in Armenia.
No copies of this work traced in Armenia (July 2016).
