Note

Description based on imperfect copy wanting the first quire which has been supplied in manuscript copy, and quire 29 (pp. 459-474). The whole of quire 29 is in manuscript form with colophon which records that the named section was copied by the deacon Khach’atur Urubchi, a student at the Collegium de Propaganda Fide in Constantinople on 22 July 1776. The same colophon is also translated into Latin [Italian?], inserted between pp. 459-474.

Illustrations: 90 full-page woodcuts representings scenes of events from the Old Testament (34) and the New Testament (56), bearing the monogram initials CVS [Christophel Van Sichem] and HG [unidentified?]. The image of the death of Saul (no. 22. page?) is printed upside down. Ornithomorphic initials (fish, bird, human).

Note

The first 9 gatherings of eight leaves each are unpaginated and have quire numbers from Բ-Ժ [ii-x]; pp.145-614 are numbered in Arabic numerals and the quire numbers continue from ԺԱ-ԼԷ [ xi-xxxvii]. The quire numbers are also indicated in Arabic numerals.

Note

Nerses IV Klayetsi, called Shnorhali (Graceful) (1102-1173) was Catholicos of All Armenians from 1166 to his death. 'Jesus the Son of God' summarises pertinent sections of the Old Testament and the New Testament narrating the life of Jesus in two thousand monorhymed couplets. See V. Loosely inserted is a folded typed ALs from H. Samuelian, Librairie Orientale H. Samuelian, Paris to Mr. Simmons, dated 10 September 1963. The letter gives bibliographic information of the first eight editions of 'Jesus Son of God', 1643,1660 (twice),1702 (twice), 1725, 1746, 1785 and 1792. This is the 3rd edition. On top of the letter in the right margin is the comment in pen ‘Returned not required’, signed J S [G?] S[immons] and dated 13 December.
