The title of the work has also been translated (20th century) as "Genealogy of the descendants of Japhet ..." and identified as being the work commonly called the History of the Armenians.
Early account of Armenia, covering the mythological origins of the Armenian people in the genealogy of the race of Japhet, beginning from Hayk, legendary founder of the Armenian people up to King Artashes (Artaxias, 201- 190 B.C), founder of the Artaxiad Dynasty of Armenia; and Armenia's interaction with Sassanid, Byzantine and Arsacid empires down to the 5th century.
The work is attributed to Movses Khorenats’i, who according to the information on the title page wrote the work on the request of his patron Sahak Bagratuni. See Vrej Nersessian, 'Movses Khorenats’i‘ in The Everyman companion to East European Literature, ed. R.B. Pynsent & S.I. Kanikova (London: J. M.
