Copy-specific note

Imperfect: wanting all before p. 7.

Copy-specific note

This copy of the Armenian hymnal according to the Armenian Orthodox rite has been carefully and extensively grangerised with the addition of 15 Venetian-style engravings which have been carefully superimposed over the original woodcut illustrations as well as the head- and tail-pieces and one or more initials, and with nearly 80 engravings in a Catholic style, some of which are laid down on inserted blank leaves and others directly bound in. Two of these plates give the artists' names as Fabio Berardi after P. Antonio Novelli; the captions where present are in Armenian. Among the plates are two engravings for Young's Night thoughts with captions in Turkish in Armenian letters. The Constantinople preliminaries have been removed and replaced with a new European style architectural engraved title plate with the text area excised, laid down on a blank leaf. This copy appears to be an example of Latinisation of the Armenian Orthodox rite.

Copy-specific note
