Illustration on p. [12], showing monks kneeling before the throne of a fourth monk. The three line caption below the picture extols the virtues of Eznik the 'philosopher' for his teaching skills.

Note

This is the first printing of this famous work ('The refutation of sects'). Aghek'sandr Erets'ian, who derived his information from the list of 'Armenian historical Studies' by K'. Patkanian in the journal P'ordz 1 (1880), records a 1763 publication in Constantinople and both 1760 and 1772 editions in Smyrna. This appears not to be supported by bibliographical evidence.

Note

According to the colophon (pp. 292-93) the printing was conluded 'in the year of our Lord 1763 and in the year of the Armenians 1212 March 12th'.
