Ink inscription at head of both front wrappers: "Jas. P. Muirhead". Booklabel of John Carter on slipcase front board with pencil note in his hand: "Jas. P. Muirhead's son, Lionel BCLM, from whose sale this came, 1940, was a pupil of WJC's (at Eton 1857/63)".
Binding
Two parts bound separately in original wrappers, housed with Muirhead's copy of "Key to Lucretilis" (1871, ECL copy 2) and a second, unrelated copy of the "Key" (ECL copy 3) in 20th century spattered paper boards with pale green buckram spine and gilt spine title "William Johnson - Lucretilis - 1873-1871", within matching paper covered slipcase.
Copy-specific note
ECL copy has publisher's advertisements bound at end of each part; those in pt. I dated "March, 1876" ([6] p.) and those in pt. II, "September, 1875" ([4] p., printed on heavier paper).
