Loosely inserted typed bookseller's note on ruled notepaper with note in red ballpoint pen in the hand of John Carter: "Given me by Hofmann & Freeman the Cambridge, Mass., booksellers 20 June [19]70. This is the only book from WJC's library now in mine that has his signature of ownership in both forms."
