Engraved armorial bookplate of Eton College.
16th century brown calf; tooled in gold with hatched corner-pieces and a large central cartouche decorated with silver, containing the arms, name and motto of Jacques de Malinfant. Traces of two pairs of ties. The spine has four gold-tooled double bands, two single bands and seven compartments, gold tooled with open tools; the headbands are green and yellow. The edges of the boards are tooled in gold and the edges are gilt, gauffered and painted. Green silk ribbon bookmark. -- description from Mirjam Foot, The Henry Davis Gift, vol. 1, p. 156.
