Volume 1 (1898) comprised 12 monthly numbers; vol. 2 (1899), 4 quarterly numbers; vol. 3 (1900), one Christmas number; vol. 4 (1901), nos. 1-2 issued as a single volume, nos. 3-4 were intended but not issued.

A special extra number compiled from the first three numbers was issued in April 1898; a special number compiled from the first 12 numbers was issued in December 1898; 'A specimen copy' was issued in 1899. See Fletcher and Rood, E1(c), (d), (h).
Volumes 1 and 2 were also issued complete in boards; see Fletcher and Rood, E1(b), (f). Fletcher and Rood also record an edition de luxe limited to 12 copies, of which only 10 were for sale (E1(g)).
For statements of limitations for each number, see Fletcher and Rood. The ECL copies of the first three numbers are all from issues limited to 75 (no.1) or 72 copies (nos. 2-3; the latter is only recorded in an edition limited to 140 copies in Fletcher and Rood).
Imprint varies. Other numbers have imprint: Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey : 15 Market Place.

Copies vary in the hand-colouring of the woodcuts, and some numbers include loose woodcuts, order forms and other ephemera. No attempt is made here to record these variants in detail.
Another edition of v. 3 was issued in the United States, limited to 300 copies of which 288 for sale, with imprint: Boston: Alfred Bartlett, 1900.

[Copy 1] ECL holds a complete set in wrappers, including the December 1898 'special number' and the specimen copy, mostly with the loose insertions and some with ephemera inserted. This set is made up from copies of v. 1 numbered 5 (nos. 11-12), 33 (nos. 3, 5, 8, 10), 36 (nos. 2-4, 7), 52 (no. 9) and an unnumbered copy of no. 1 (v. 1); copies of v. 2 numbered 54 (nos. 1-2) and 241 (nos. 3-4); copy 72 of v. 3; and an unnumbered copy of v. 4. There is also a 'complimentary' number in printed wrappers, numbered '10' in ms.; the ECL copy is undated and it has not been established whether this is a copy of the April 1808 'special extra number' lacking the printing date statement, or an unrecorded number.
[Copy 2] ECL additionally holds duplicates of most of the numbers, some with insertions and other ephemera. These comprise copies numbered 5, 33, 36, 52, 56 (v. 1); 47, 54, 239 and 241 (v. 2); and 105 (v. 3).
