Privately published in an edition of 500 copies of which 250 were were burned; of the surviving 250 copies, two hundred were coloured, for the mostpart by Jess Dorynne. See E.G. Illustrations: 43 prints : woodcut, hand-col. ; full-page (20) and image 12 x 8 cm. (t.p. vignette), 7 x 12 cm. or smaller. Three small vignettes are uncolored.
Copies exist with the plates uncoloured, or without the plates.
Statement of limitation on lower cover: "Only 550 copies of this hand-coloured edition printed, 500 being for sale. The number of this copy is -".

[Copy 1] Loosely inserted TLS to Edward A. [Teddy] Craig dated 20 Sep 1974 signed by Martin Drury on National Trust stationery, apparently in response to Craig's request to obtain one of the copies of the book at Smallhythe, replying in the negative.
[Copy 2] ECL copy 2 bears an inscription in ink (partially rubbed out and transcribed in pencil) from Edward Gordon Craig "To dear old Edy with love 'The Ted'", dated Christmas 1899, with an inscription in pencil in Edward Anthony Craig's hand and his bookplate.
[Copy 2] Custom made cloth box by John Craig with leather spine and inlaid woodcut on side.

[Copy 2] ECL copy 2 numbered 2. This copy is housed in a specially made box and accompanied by a felt covered insert with two original wood blocks and a printed extract from E. A. Craig's biography of his father, and by additional material in hand-made embossed paper folders as follows: 2 coloured woodcuts, one untitled, the other ("Je suis!") dated 1899 and initialled "EGC 1924"; original coloured woodcut "Houp-la!"; autograph notes to Edy on headed stationery of "The page"; order form; ms. leaf of heavy card with proof print of "The pony".
