Commonly referred to as the 'Antiquitates' of Hans Tirol. A possible formal title is given on f. [7]v, of 'Sentencia heroaldi'. This accompanies the portrait of Hans Tirol pointed towards the dedication to Henry VIII.

Donation inscription on preliminary leaf recto: Liber Collegii B.M. de Etona D.D. Edw. Betham Socius. 1775. Edward Betham (1709-1783, Fellow of Eton College from 1771).

Dates of production inferred from illustration on fol. 40, in which a standard bears the date 1541, and the heraldic device of Jakob Hörproth which appears on f. [8]v, which bears the date 1545.
Sequence of 8 unnumbered leaves preceding main sequence, including 7 leaves of index of names.
Chiefly on paper, but with some folded leaves on vellum.
Illuminated illustrations include full page images of historical events, such as Noah's Ark and the battle of the Amazons. Representations of historical and legendary figures, and heraldic devices, are also included.
Written in parallel Latin and German text: Latin written in an italic hand, and German in secretary hand with extensive flourishes.
This volume belongs with a further three volumes produced by Hans Tirol, entitled 'De nobilitate et ortu heroum': Eton MSS 93-95.
Written by Hans Tirol and intended as a gift to Henry VIII, whose arms appear beneath the dedication on f. [8]r. The donor was Jakob Hörproth, consul of Augsburg, whose arms and dedication appear on f. [8]v.
James notes in the interleaved copy of his catalogue that the manuscript had belonged to Thomas Jett, FSA. Thomas Hearne reports in his Remarks and collections that he saw it in Jetts' collection on 9 Oct 1722, having bought it from 'Mr Stebbing'. Jetts' books were sold in 1731.
Inscription on front pastedown indicating that MS 92 with MSS 93-95 were given by Henry Temple, first Viscount Palmerston (1672/3-1757), to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742, whose library is now at Blickling House).
Printed label on front pastedown recording the donation of the volumes by Lord Palmerston to Eton College in 1750, they having been returned to him by Richard Ellys's widow.

Late 19th or early 20th century English mid brown goat, with earlier 18th century sprinkled calf board leather remounted onto new boards; 18th century calf gold tooled swag roll and twist roll border; gold tooled fillet and large ornaments composed of smaller tools in each compartment of spine; earlier red morocco spine label with gold tooled title; six raised bands; 18th century black, blue and yellow marbled endpapers; gilt edges.
