Above the caption title of the Epistola Bessarionis is a contemporary note: Ex MS in Biblioth. Bodl. Arch. A. 172. Copying ascribed by Paul Quarrie to Joseph Bowles for Richard Topham (see Quarrie, 'Richard Topham of Windsor and his library', Evtopia, 2:1 (1993), p. 13). No internal evidence to show that Bowles was copyist. Unable to identify the manuscript in question in the Bodleian's catalogues.
The catalogue of the Escorial library is probably copied from Bodleian MS Selden B.4., fol. lv recto to lxxv recto.
Place and date of production inferred from the ascribed copying by Joseph Bowles for Richard Topham.
