Provenance

Purchased for Eton College in 1596/7, according to a pencil inscription on front flyleaf, with reference to p. 465 in the relevant audit book. Engraved armorial bookplate of Eton College on title-page verso.

Binding

Contemporary English dark brown brown calf; blind tooled triple fillet border; gold tooled cartouche centrepiece with strapwork; blind tooled single fillet on board edges; holes for chain plate nails and ties; rebacked in 20th century in light brown calf with gold tooled ornaments in each compartment; five raised bands; sprinkled edges.
