[24] leaves : col. ill. ; 28 cm.
Sole copy. Title and imprint taken from accompanying word-processed note by the author.
"The text of this piece is the entire first chapter of Finnegans Wake."
Text printed in different typefaces and colours on Xerox transparency sheets, inserted in a transparent acrylic Sturdi-Kleer holder.
Some leaves have glued-on opalescent paper cut-outs of the sigla from Finnegans Wake; a cutout of Matt and Jeff from an old newspaper; and a hologram of a circular fractal design.
"My intention was for people to hold all the sheets in the clear holder up to the light, to look at the chapter as a whole. The text was to look like a stained glass window, and the combined effect of all the type being visible was to make the words look 'unreadable,' which some critics have claimed Finnegans Wake is."
Donated to ECL by Nicholas Kessler in April 2018.
Accompanied by word-processed note by the artist dated 2018, describing the work and with autograph annotation: Sole copy. 1994.
