The title is taken from the title-page of volume 1, which forms the fourth volume of the work (and has "Tom. IV" in the direction-line). Volume 2 has the title and imprint "Iacobi Augusti Thuani Historiarum sui temporis tomus V. Editio secunda priore emendatior, & locupletissimis indice auctior. Coloniæ Allobrogum, Typis Rouerianis. M. DC. XXX.".
In some copies the original locatives have been over-stamped and "Geneuæ" has been stamped in above the imprint.
This edition consists of two volumes, the first editions of which appeared in 1620. They are intended to accompany an edition of v. 1-3, and are usually found with that of 1626.
The title-page to v. 1 is printed in red and black. Both title-pages bear the woodcut device of the publisher.
V. 2 includes, with a separate title-leaf, "Viri illustris Aug. Thuani regii in sanctiore consistorio consiliarii, et in supremo regni senatu præsidis amplissimi, commentariorum de vita sua libri sex." dated "M. DC. XXX." This section (²A-I⁶) is sometimes bound elsewhere in the work.

17th/18th century calf; boards have two concentric blind-tooled frames; inner frame with ornaments at inner and outer corners; central compartment stained, outer compartment with cats' paw pattern; six raised bands; spine compartments each with double-blind-fillet border and central gold ornament; goatskin spine label with gilt title: "Thvani Histor" and volume number; board edges blind-tooled; text block edges sprinkled red.
