Mid 16th century dark brown calf; blind tooled triple fillet forming two concentric frames with gold stamped ornaments in each corner; gold stamped centrepiece ornament bearing 'GC'; slits in boards for two ties; blind tooled single fillet on board edges; blind tooled triple fillet on spine, with panels of cross hatching at head and tail; gold stamped ornaments in each compartment; four raised bands; faintly sprinkled edges; tabs of medieval manuscript beneath pastedowns, now detached.
