Headpieces and initials.
John Graunt (1620-1674), the pioneer student of the bills of mortality, was born in Birchin Lane "at the Sign of the Seven Stars" and is buried in St Dunstan's Church, London.

On verso of first leaf: "Tuesday, June 20. 1665. At a meeting of the council of the Royal Society. Ordered, that the Observations upon the bills of mortality by Mr. John Graunt be printed by John Martyn and James Allestry, printers to the Royal Society. Brouncker, Pres."
