Physical description
1 volume (iv, 238, i leaves) : parchment ; 30 x 20.5 cm.
Note
The alphabetically arranged index of canon law made by Martin of Troppau (ff. 1-132v), followed by two of the Queastiones disputatae of St Thomas Aquinas, De malo (ff. 136-218v, ends imperfectly) and De spiritualibus creaturis (ff. 219-234v, begins imperfectly).
Note
Fairly numerous marginalia of an early annotator, who has also added a table of words (Aaron-Zizannia) on ff. 133-135 which were left blank by the scribe; the same hand supplied the final question of De spiritualibus creaturis, 'utrum potencie anime' on ff. 233-34, and added a commentary on Matthew 26:1--28:20 on ff. 235-238v.
Note
The gap after f. 218 is noticed by a 14th-century hand; the same hand noted on f. 219: 'hic deficiunt duo articulii et principium tercii'.
Note
Leaf 232v was left blank by the scribe; a 15th-century hand wrote 'Nichil deficit sed verte folium' on the recto.
Note
The main hand has added three couplets between the last words and the explicit of the index of Martin of Troppau (f. 132v).
Note
An early 14th-century hand has added seven 4-line stanzas in English, in lead point, in a blank space before the beginning of the commentary on Matthew, f. 238; incipit: "Al oþer loue is lych þe mone"; printed from this manuscript by C. Browne, Religious lyrics of the fourteenth century, 2nd ed. (1957), pp. 65-66.
Note
Written space: 205 x 145 mm (the index of Martin of Troppau) and 232 x 150 mm (the works by St Thomas Aquinas)
Note
Two columns of 39-55 lines.
Note
Collation: 1-11¹² 12⁴ wants 4, blank, after f. 135, 13-15¹² 16-17¹⁰ 18-19¹² 20 six (ff. 216-21: three bifolia) 21¹² wants 12, blank, after f. 232 22 six (ff. 233-238).
Note
Textura in several hands, except for ff. 133-5, 233-8 where the writer of the marginalia to the three main texts supplied the table, the final section of De spiritualibus creaturis, and the commentary on Matthew in a more or less current anglicana little if at all later than the rest of the book.
Note
Initials in red and/or blue: spaces remain unfilled on ff. 9v-132v and after f. 171v.
Note
Secundo folio: auditis.
