Works by St Bernard of Clairvaux, including De consideratione (ff. 1-29), De amore Dei (ff. 29-46), Homiliae super missus est in laudibus virginis matris [identification not confirmed by cataloguer] (ff. 48-59), and a selection of sermons and short pieces nearly all of them ascribed in headings to St Bernard, similar to the selection in British Library MS Add. 4899 but with differences.
The sermons and short pieces include sermons of the temporale, Advent-Pentecost (ff. 59v-127), sermons of the sanctorale, vigil of Andrew-All Saints, and Dedication of the Church (ff. 128-164), sermons and short pieces mostly of the De Diversis collection (ff. 164-203v), and 'Rerum quarumdam numeralis distinctio ex dictis s' Bernardi' (ff. 204-211v). The component pieces are identified in Ker, as cited below.
Also includes a sermon 'de Iusto homine bene uiuente' ascribed incorrectly to Serlo of Savigny (ff. 46v-48), printed by B. Tissier in Bibliotheca Patrum Cisterciensium (1660-1669), vi, 107-29.
Medieval foliation: (i, ii), 1-43, 45-211, (212-215).
Leaves 212-213 are late medieval parchment end-leaves; f. 213v was pasted down.

Pricks in both margins of at least some quires.
The first line of writing above the top ruled line.

Mainly in one hand; punctuation includes the flex.
Initials in blue or red with ornament in the other colour, or in green with ornament in red; smaller red or blue initials on ff. 204-211.
Secundo folio: ratio est.
Rebound at Eton around 1715.
'D.M.' in the margin of ff. 46 and 54, the latter probably in the main hand.
Purchased by Richard Hopton from the executors of Peter Bylton and given to Eton by Hopton in or before 1492-3; see provenance note below.
