[Iliad]
Homer, Iliad (in Greek). manuscript
Title in M. R. James catalogue: Homeri Iliadis libri V. Graece
Italy, ca. 1200-ca. 1340?
1 volume (76 leaves) : parchment ; 30.5 x 22.5 cm.
Books 1-5 of the Iliad in Greek, ending at book 5, verse 84.
M. R. James dated the manuscript to the 13th century; in the interleaved, annotated copy of his Descriptive catalogue at ECL (MS 932) this is corrected to the 12th century in a note recording the findings of T. W. Allen who saw the manuscript in June 1913. A further note by N. G. Wilson dated 28 June 1978 dates the hand to ca. 1300-1340.
The first part of the scholia are in the same hand as the text; from the middle of book 2 (f. 35v) the scholia are continued by a smaller darker hand giving extracts from Eustathius inter alia. This hand is dated by T. W. Allen to possibly the 13th century and by N. G. Wilson to the second half the 15th century, as cited above.
Written space not recorded by M. R. James.
The lines per page vary from 8 or less at first, to 22 lines on a full page; up to 55 lines of scholia.

Title in gold on f. 1; in book 2, the space for a heading is left blank on f. 23.
Initials in red.
On blank f. 76v there is a 16-line inscription carefully scribbled over and partially obscured by the bookplate.
The hand is described in the note by N. G. Wilson as cited above, as a well known style of the Palaeologan period.
