Inscribed by Blunden on the verso of the frontispiece: "Mr Sato with all good wishes from a much older Edmund Blunden than this volume represents" dated 2 April 1950, with four lines of verse, seemingly unpublished. Possibly Isao Sato who provided an introduction to a volume of lectures given by Blunden at Keio University around this time, or Kiyoshi Sato, Blunden's fellow Shelley scholar.
