Late 18th- or early 19th-century armorial bookplate (partial: helm, crest, and motto only, closely excised) of James Nasmyth on upper pastedown.
Contemporary three-quarter leather with brown marbled paper over millboard; the calf outlined by double blind fillets; narrow squares. Spine flat (now scuffed and faded), divided into five compartments by double and triple gilt fillets alternatively, three with gilt titling and volume, two with a quatrefoil-in-lozenges roll; false headbands of alternating brown and gold[?]. Textblock speckled blue at all edges; pastedowns plain.
