Rebacked and repaired. 19th-century speckled half calf with orangey-red marbled paper over pasteboard. Spine smooth and rounded (in the early 20th century?), the leather tucked in at head and tail, divided into seven compartments by transverse gold-tooled double fillets; gilt titling ('Essay on Falstaff') on red morocco label bordered by a gilt roll; gilt date ('1777') tooled at tail of spine. Textblock trimmed and sprinkled. Endpapers (wove paper) comprised of a folded bifolium or two separate sheets likewise folded, pasted down leaving one free, and reinforced with gauze-like material and ?glue; undecorated.
Imperfect: wanting the half-title.
